Character Name: Delirium
Series: Sandman, by Neil Gaiman
Gender: Female
Age: Forever? Or around 16-ish. It really depends on how you look at it.
Species: Endless
Sexuality: Never really brought up. She's not a very sexual thing. For the purpose of this question lets call her bisexual, since there has never really been interest in either direction.
Appearance: She looks to be in her mid to late teens, so about 14 to 17. Delirium is slight, maybe a little wispy, like a good hard breeze could knock her away. She is very thin, as if she doesn't think about food much, and which she does its more of a passing fancy than anything that convinces her to go and get some food.
She is generally dressed in baggy clothing and fishnet, sometimes together sometimes either of her preferences on their own. She has various piercings that change, such a a nose ring that isn't always there. All of her is changeable like that, which makes an actual description of her hard to pin down.
Her most striking, and memorable, feature is her eyes. One blue and one green, her green eye has silver flecks in it but sometimes she forgets which one they go in. Delirium's eyes are the least likely part of her to change, while her hair is the most likely to shift. As a general rule it can be assumed that Delirium's hair will be bright, other than that it is almost never the same for any extended amount of time. it is easiest to refer to it as rainbows, and leave it at that.
Personality: Delirium is crazy, just as her name implies. In fact, that way I've always explained her is that she is the personification of insanity. She's spacey, and can't stick on one topic to save her life, but she usually gets around to the important part of the conversation eventually. You just have to remind her a little bit. She doesn't really understand the difference between right and wrong, and she knows everything except that knowing everything is confusing so she tends to forget most of it. She is shy, sometimes. She is very outgoing, sometimes.
She is very volatile, in that anything can be taken in almost any way with no real advance notice. In the grand scheme, however, she's fairly laid back; taking things as they come with an almost dreamy acceptance. Everything is surreal with her, kind of like a Van Gogh painting. She doesn't like being ignored or talked down to. At all.
Abilities: In cannon, Delirium has control over insanity, which makes her a little omnicient and able to do very rude tings with the way people perceive reality. In other games I've made her unable to affect other characters. She can still warp reality a little around her, but not on purpose, and she can't do anything to other characters directly. I would assume similar restrictions would be put on her here. But it would be really cool of she could keep knowing stuff. (It makes her seem all spooky and mysterious).
Weaknesses: Again, crazy as a box of fruit loops. She doesn't have any real understanding of person safety, which will get her into some fine messes when she walks into the middle of something she has absolutely no ability to handle in any way shape or form. It used to be her family would protect her and herd her in safer directions. Without them there she's pretty much a sitting duck. And she has a tendency to drive cars very badly...
Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider, she tends to stay in her realm but when she went out it was generally European based...
History: Delirium is the youngest of 7 Endless (Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium), an important thing to know is that she didn't start out as Delirium; she began as Delight. Delight was the personification of innocence or joy. Something absolutely terrible happened to her, and she changed into Delirium.
Del doesn't really grow in Brief Lives, as reveal what she's been for a really long time already. The beginning has her trying to convince members of her family to go look for their missing brother (Destruction) with her. The search involves a lot of people dying and Dream falling apart when they go to ask for assistance from their eldest brother, Destiny. When Dream falls apart in Destiny's Garden, Delirium shows that she is capable of pulling herself together in an emergency by taking control and giving Destiny a dressing down that included him not know anything not in his book. She then says she knows lots more than he ever could and the only thing that makes it okay is not remembering most of it. Which explains most of her scattered and forgetful behavior. Eventually they find Destruction, and when he says that he won't come back with his siblings she loses interest with her brother and pays attention to the dog that he decides to give to her.
In a different book it is implied that Delirium's insanity is due to a heartbreak of some sort, and Destruction was the one to hold her while she went bonkers. There are other theories to go with this, like her insanity was caused by the growth of humanity and its inability to have joy without some regulating factor. Which means insanity is the only way of happiness without conditions. I like a combination of these explanations, because I don't think either one on their own was likely to have driven her so mad.
Now, a reason for her to be in or go to Manhattan is harder to make cannon, but with her there is every possibility that A) she wandered in being very very lost through somebodies head, and now she can't get out because... nobody can
